An introduction

Cost-effective
elegance.

It might come as a surprise - but traditional wood block parquetry can be more affordable than standard strip flooring. Shorter, narrower pieces cost less than long or wide boards, while the geometric patterns deliver an instantly more decorative result.

The structured patterns enhance any room visually, while the premium timber adds measurable value to your property. Sustainably sourced, built to last decades, and an investment that pays off across the life of the home.

A parquet floor isn't a finish - it's a feature, woven into the architecture of the room itself.

Patterns & Designs

Four classic patterns,
each a different signature.

Click any pattern to see the blocks come together. The same timber, the same craftsmanship - but the geometry tells a different story in each.

Herringbone

Classic

The timeless choice. Short blocks set at 90° angles to one another, creating a continuous interlocking V-pattern. Sophisticated for living areas, hallways, and any space where heritage character matters.

Best for · Hallways & Living Effort · ★★★

Chevron

Contemporary

Like herringbone, but each block is mitred to a perfect 45° point. The result: clean, angular V-shapes that align in continuous lines. Bold, rhythmic, distinctly modern - even in a heritage room.

Best for · Open-plan rooms Effort · ★★★★

Basket Weave

Textural

Pairs of strips alternating horizontal and vertical, weaving across the floor like a literal basket. Visually rich, tactile, and ideal for larger spaces that benefit from added depth and interest.

Best for · Large rooms Effort · ★★★

Block Parquetry

Traditional

The stately classic. A 4×4 grid of square blocks alternating grain direction. Quiet rhythm, formal poise - pairs equally well with classic interiors and contemporary minimalism.

Best for · Heritage & modern Effort · ★★
Solid wood vs. engineered wood

Two ways to build
a parquet floor.

Both deliver the natural warmth of timber. The difference is in the layers underneath.

Solid Wood Parquet

100% Hardwood timber

A single piece of timber per block. Authentic texture, traditional luxury, and the deepest sandable thickness.

Engineered Wood Parquet

Popular Timbers

Four species,
four signatures.

From oak's classic look to French timber's old-world charm and Australian gum's resilience - choose the species that fits your space and lifestyle.

Oak

Classic appeal · highly durable

The most iconic parquetry timber. Beautifully consistent grain, a warm honey tone, and proven durability for high-traffic homes.

French Timber

Old-world · luxurious aesthetic

European pale tones with refined grain. Perfect for spaces that lean into traditional, château-inspired or hospitality interiors.

Spotted Gum

Australian · richly toned

Striking warm hues with interlocked grain. Hardy enough for active homes, beautiful enough for showcase rooms.

Blackbutt

Pale, neutral · QLD favourite

Clean and light. Pairs with both modern and traditional rooms - sustainably sourced, reliably consistent.

Australian Code of Practice

Beneath the surface,
the method has changed.

Wood floors can no longer be installed over an unventilated subfloor. We use 18mm waterproof plywood - eliminating the old battens method, reducing termite risk, and giving the floor a quieter, more solid feel underfoot.

Old method · phased out

Battens over concrete

Concrete slab Timber battens ~ ~ ~ ~ Humidity gap Wood floor (cupping risk) ! Termite risk
  • Hollow underfoot - air gap between battens
  • Humidity trapped in gaps - wood "cupping"
  • Higher termite risk in humid areas
New method · current code

18mm waterproof plywood

Concrete slab 18mm WP plywood Sealed top Parquet floor (solid & quiet) Protected
  • Solid feel underfoot - no hollow battens sound
  • No humidity trap - prevents cupping in QLD sun
  • Reduced termite risk - modern code-compliant
The finish

Three coats.
One protected floor.

Once installed, every parquet floor gets three coats of low-VOC Enviro Floors coating, applied on-site after sanding. The coats shield the wood from moisture and UV, prevent cupping under Queensland sun, and lock in the parquet pattern's intricate beauty.

  • 01

    Sand to perfection

Coarse → medium → fine grit, eliminating any minor imperfections from installation.

  • 02

    Three coats

Three layers of low-VOC Enviro Floors coating, with inter-coat buffing for adhesion.

  • 03

    Cure & guarantee

Cure times explained, walk/furniture timing in writing, five-year QBCC workmanship warranty.

Frequently Asked

Common
questions.

Pulled directly from the questions homeowners and property managers ask us most. Have a different one? Get in touch.

  • What are the benefits of installing parquet block flooring?

Parquet block flooring combines elegance with practicality. Its classic patterns enhance the aesthetic appeal of any space while providing durability and strength - especially in high-traffic areas. Our parquet options are eco-friendly and contribute to sustainable home environments. And surprisingly, traditional wood block parquetry can be more affordable than standard strip flooring because the shorter, narrower wood pieces cost less than long, wide boards.

  • What types of wood are popular for parquet flooring?

Each wood type brings unique qualities to parquetry. Popular choices include:

    • Oak - for its classic look and durability
    • French timber - for an old-world, luxurious feel
    • Spotted Gum & Blackbutt - Australian species known for their strength and natural beauty
  • What patterns are available, and how do they differ?

Parquetry flooring offers a variety of patterns, each adding unique character:

    • Herringbone - a timeless pattern that adds sophistication to any room
    • Chevron - similar to herringbone but with clean, angular lines, ideal for a modern look
    • Basket Weave - creates a woven texture, perfect for larger spaces needing depth
    • Block Parquetry - a traditional design that suits both modern and classic decor
  • How does Enviro Floors protect and maintain parquetry after installation?

We apply three coats of low-VOC Enviro Floors coating to seal and protect the parquet. The coating shields the wood from moisture and sun damage, preventing issues like "cupping" that can occur when sunlight heats the floor. Regular maintenance - sanding and polishing every few years - keeps the floor looking new and preserves both its beauty and resilience for decades.

Our Process · Timber Deck Sanding & Re-Coating · Enviro Floors
Our Process

Seven unhurried steps,
from first call to last coat.

Each stage explained, agreed and completed in order - from the first conversation to the long-term care of your finished floors.

- Step 01

Talk & Plan

Agree on goals, finish, access, and timings.

We listen to how you use the space and the aesthetic you want. We’ll confirm finish type, colour/tint, slip requirements, and your timeline. We explain our dust-control methods and provide a clear window for when each area will be ready for use.

- Step 02

Inspect & Measure

Accurate assessment for a surprise-free experience.

We measure every square metre and assess the timber’s condition. Our team looks for wear patterns, sanding history, moisture risks, and structural details such as squeaks or gaps to ensure the best possible foundation for your new finish.

- Step 03

Quote & Schedule

Fixed pricing and clear timelines.

You’ll receive a comprehensive quote detailing the prep, sanding sequence, and coating specifications. Once approved, we lock in your dates and provide a clear guide on cure times—so you know exactly when you can walk on your floors or move furniture back.

- Step 04

Site Preparation & Protection

Isolating the work zone for a clean result.

We treat your home with respect. This step involves protecting adjacent areas, completing minor timber repairs (like re-setting nails), and setting up our advanced dust extraction systems. A thorough vacuuming is performed before any sanding begins to ensure a pristine environment.

- Step 05

Precision Sanding

Masterful restoration of the timber grain.

Our technicians sand in stages, moving from coarse to fine grits (40 to 100-grit) to level the floor and remove old coatings. We use specialised equipment for edges and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring a perfectly flat, uniform surface ready to accept the new finish.

- Step 06

Sustainable Coating & Finishing

Applying high-performance, non-toxic protection.

We apply your chosen stain or tint followed by multiple coats of our premium, low-VOC, water-based polyurethane. We perform inter-coat buffing to ensure a smooth, durable finish. Our coatings are safe for your family and pets and dry quickly, so you can return to your space sooner.

- Step 07

After-Care & Maintenance

Preserving the beauty of your floors for the long term.

To keep your floors looking beautiful for years to come, we provide a tailored maintenance guide. This includes specific cleaning routines, advice on protective felt pads for furniture, and guidance on when to schedule a professional re-coat to maintain the timber’s integrity.
